As a journalist and dramaturgist of the whole event, Honza Vedral is
inviting you to Chapeau Rouge to see a part of the United Islands.
“This evening gives evidence that Czech underground music is alive
regardless of the time and current political establishment. I am glad
that after the many changes this line-up has been organized. Apart from
the legendary Michael’s Uncle, the stage is to present the young punk
guns of the Crooked Beats or the rock’n’roll by Anyway or the Queens
Of Everything. Each of these bands represents slightly different styles,
yet the mix is a promise of an immoderate punk venue for those whose
hearts and minds are into this style.”
United Islands 2009 is an original musical festival that rains over the
historical center of Prague on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th of June.
About hundred Czech as well as many European and world artists will
perform on Vltava river islands and its riverbanks. Musical program
will be supported by supplementary program for a whole family. The entrance
to all sections of the festival is free.
Festival is the largest open-air event in the city of Prague. It has
a five-year tradition. In the first year 2004 it celebrated the widest
EU enlargement in history and the joining of the Czech Republic into
the EU. In 2009 it became one of the main cultural events of the Czech
presidency and official closing celebration.
On Thursday 18th of June a Club night will precede the open-air events
of the next day. It simultaneously takes place at 15 Prague music clubs
– again for free. In each club 3 young Czech bands, chosen by well
known personalities, musicians, journalists and dramaturges will be
presented.
Events on the islands start on Friday noon. The two main stages will
be placed on Střelecký Island in the very heart of Prague city. The
others are at Kampa – Malá Strana, Slovanský Island, Dětský Island,
Mánes house and piazette of National Theatre. Concerts will be accompanied
by other cultural events, shops, shows and refreshment points on the
riverbanks Masarykovo and Janáčkovo nábřeží.
The festival is organized together with Prague municipal authority and
under the auspices of the vice chairman for European affairs and a member
of the Government Alexandr Vondra, Lord Mayor of Prague Pavel Bém,
and a member of the European parliament, Jan Zahradil.
